So I’m totally obsessed with the Catfish television show on MTV. It’s basically people pretending to be someone they aren't through social media (mostly through Facebook) getting other people emotionally attached by playing with their hearts. Don’t forget that this show is a spinoff of a movie that came out in 2010 which is a documentary of the show’s creator, Nev, showing how he got caught up with a catfish and the intricate web she created to make him believe that he was in love with this girl he had only met and seen on the web. You can read the storyline and check out the movie trailer below (it’s a great movie and these situations on show don’t have anything on what Nev’s situation was). After watching the show make sure you Google the person’s name, Google Image Search their pictures, try talking to them on the phone or Skyping over the internet with them and try meeting up. If accomplishing any one of these tasks raises a red flag you may be dealing with a catfish. And why are these people referred to as a catfish? You’ll have to see the movie to find out.
Storyline(IMDB) - Young filmmakers document their colleague's budding online friendship with a young woman and her family which leads to an unexpected series of discoveries.
