Before I came here to be your deejay, I spent several years as the owner of a frozen yogurt store. You know, one of those places where you make your own serving, then bring it up to the scale to weigh it, then pay by the ounce! Anyway, Lisa and I have sold the place, and I can now share with you what DROVE ME CRAZY: Lots and lots of people try to eat their servings before they weigh it! I saw it many times every day! Good looking, upstanding, normal citizens, shoveling yogurt, gummy bears, Oreos and cookie-dough pieces into their mouth as fast as they could before they had to put it on the scale. Like it was a race.
I'm not sure if they just didn't get that they were shoplifting, or if they just figured that a small business owner like me wouldn't do anything about it. The couple times I said something about it like "Excuse me, could you put that on the scale first please?" they got angry with me, and even threatened to never come back. Eventually, Lisa talked me into just letting it go. Just figured the daily loss was part of doing business.
One older lady came in once a week with her grandson. She would always reach her hand (!) into the cookies, grab a couple, stand there eating them and say "I'll bet you wish I'd pay for these." "Yes, maam, I do," I'd say. But she never did. She knew I wasn't going to call the police on somebody's grandmother.
